Limitations of the BMI Chart
(0)Posted on December 19th, 2010ArticlesJust like anything and everything, the BMI chart does have limitations.
First of all, the calculator determines body fat. Body fat is a contributing factor in illness and even in death. This is relevant to both men and women. However, the limitations may include:
- The fact that the body fat of athletes may be overestimated. Muscle weighs more than fat.
- The body fat of older individuals may be underestimated because they have lost muscle mass due to aging.
However, if you take away these limitations, the chart is a very useful tool in determining where you stand in regards to your body weight and how you can rectify it if there is a problem.

What is OVerweight for you might not be for someone else
(0)Posted on December 16th, 2010ArticlesThe body mass index, or BMI, is something that is very important when calculating whether or not you are underweight, overweight, obese, or normal.
You can’t really go off weight alone. If you told someone that you weight 225 pounds, they might say, “Oh my gosh, you weigh so much!” But what they don’t take into account is that you are 6’5”, so you are not overweight. However, that same weight on someone who is 5’5” would easily place them into an obese category.
If you were to rely on the scales alone, everyone would be thinking they were overweight. That is why the BMI chart comes in handy. It takes in account your height when telling you that you are overweight or not. That way you know the truth about where your weight stands.

What not to do when on a Diet
(0)Posted on December 6th, 2010ArticlesWhen you are on a diet, it seems like there are more don’ts than dos. This is because there are.
For instance, you have to stay away from the snacks. The snacks are what put you in the position to begin with, so you don’t want to mess with that.
Another don’t is to not weigh yourself and use a BMI chart everyday. This can be discouraging, especially if your weight fluctuates a little. Try do use the scales and the BMI calculator once per week.
A third don’t is to not say, “I’ll skip exercising today and make up for it next week.” It actually doesn’t work that way.
So if you need to lose weight, make sure you have a routine and that you stick to that routine. That will make a considerable difference in your life.

Wii Fit and the BMI Chart
(0)Posted on December 6th, 2010ArticlesWhat do Wii Fit and the BMI chart have to do with each other?
Well, if you are into Wii Fit or being fit, period, the chart may not read accurately. This is because athletic individuals and kids have a little something different going on when it comes to body fat.
Fit individuals have a lot of muscle, which weighs more than fat. A person can be in excellent physical condition, but read high on the chart. This is something that is common amongst football players. Sure, they may be 6’3” and weigh well over 200 pounds, but they may not have much body fat on them at all.
As far as kids go, kids do need to be kept in good physical shape, but the chart can give an incorrect reading there as well too. Some kids naturally have a little weight on them, but they may have muscle as well. These are aspects to take into consideration when measuring BMI.

Will Men or Women Benefit more from a BMI Chart?
(0)Posted on December 6th, 2010ArticlesBoth men and woman become overweight or obese. Even children can become morbidly obese, which is a rather heartbreaking situation.
Being that both men and women become overweight or obese, both will benefit from the BMI chart. This is because it is important that both genders track where it is they stand as far as their weight goes.
If they are even the slightest bit overweight, the chart tells them that they need to eat healthier foods and exercise more. For those morbidly obese, the chart tells them that they have to make major lifestyle changes.
So if anyone says that women benefit more than men or men more than women, that is not the case. Calculating BMI is something that benefits all adults.
